American Enterprise Project
Team up to 3 members
The American Enterprise Project consists of two parts: a prejudged report and a performance component. Both parts are required to be eligible to win an award. The intent is to help members learn more about the economic system around them. The performance should address impact of the project to the community, member involvement, and the results of the completed project.
Reports must describe activities of the chapter that were conducted between the start of the previous SLC and the start of the current SLC. The performance section includes a maximum of seven minutes to describe the project and obtained results and a three minute question-answer period with judges.

Business Ethics
Team of 2 or 3 members
Business Ethics consists of a performance component. Each team will present and defend its positions related to an ethical dilemma. The preliminary performance Teams are given twenty minutes to prepare and each participant will be given two 4" x 6" note cards. Information may be written on both sides of the note cards.
Teams have seven minutes to present the ethical dilemma followed by a three minute question-answer period.

Business Plan
Team up to 3 members
Business plan consists of two parts: a prejudged report and a performance component. Both parts are required to be eligible to win an award.
The prejudged report should be based on a proposed business venture or current business operation. Business plans must not have been in operation longer than 12 months before NLC. It should include an executive summary, company description, industry analysis, target market, competitive analysis, marketing plan and sales strategy, operations, management and organization, management and organization, long-term development, financials, and appendix.
For the performance component five minutes are allotted for set up. Each team will have seven minutes to describe the project and results obtained, followed by a three minute question-answer period by the judges.

Emerging Business Issues
Team of 2 or 3 members
Participants will be expected to research the topic prior to the conference. Groups should be prepared to present either an affirmative or negative argument, based on random selection.
The topic for 2013 will be:
American corporations have been moving their headquarters to foreign countries to avoid paying the federal income tax in the United States which is 20 to 25 percent higher than foreign countries. Should the federal income tax for corporations be lowered to keep corporations in the United States? Argue either affirmative that the United States government should cut taxes for corporations or negative that the taxes should be left as is.
Teams will have five minutes to finalize their preparations. Each team member will be provided two 4" x 6" blank note cards. Information may be written on both sides of the note cards. Teams have five minutes to present the case, followed by a three minute question-answer period by the judges.

Entrepreneurship consists of two parts: an objective test and a performance component. A one hour objective test will be given based on the following: business plan, community/business relations, legal issues, initial capital and credit, personnel management, financial management, marketing management, taxes, and government regulations. An interactive case study will be given and each group must address all questions raised in the case during a seven minute performance. Twenty minutes are given to prepare before the performance. Global Business

Global Business consists of two parts: an objective test and a performance component. A one hour objective test will be given based on the following: basic international concepts, ownership and management, marketing, finance, communication, treaties and trade agreements, legal issues, human resource management, ethics, taxes and government regulations, currency exchange, international travel, and career development. An interactive case study will be given and each group must address all questions raised in the case during a seven minute performance. Twenty minutes are given to prepare before the performance. Management and Decision Making
Team of 2 or 3 members
Management and Decision Making consists of two parts: an objective test and a performance component. A one hour objective test will be given based on the following: information and communication systems, human resource management, financial management, business operations, management functions and environment, business ownership and law, strategic management, ethics and social responsibility, marketing, economic concepts, and careers. An interactive case study will be given and members of each group must assume the role(s) of management and present a solution to the case problem during a seven minute performance. Twenty minutes are given to prepare before the performance. Each team member will be provided two 4" x 6" blank note cards. Information may be written on both sides of the note cards.

Parliamentary Procedure
Team of 4 or 5 members
Parliamentary Procedure consists of two parts: an objective test and a performance component. A one hour objective test will be given based on parliamentary procedure principles and FBLA Bylaws. The case problem will be given twenty minutes prior to the performance and will simulate a regular chapter meeting. A copy of the problem for each team member, the treasurer's report, and a copy of the minutes from a preceding meeting may be used during the performance. Each team will have nine to eleven minutes to present.

Sports and Entertainment Management
Sports and Entertainment Management is composed of an objective test and a performance component. A one hour objective test will be administered based on management, networking, marketing, promotion and sales, and many other test competencies. Finalists (based on the objective tests) will receive a case study twenty minutes prior to the performance and will have seven minutes to interact with the judging panel and present a case solution. Sports and Entertainment Management is a role play event.

Business Financial Plan
Team of 2 or 3 members
Business Financial Plan consists of two parts: a prejudged report and a performance component. Both components are required to be eligible to win an award.
The topic for 2013 will be:
You are planning to open a full service pet spa called Pampered Pooches in an upscale urban area. You will provide grooming, doggie daycare, obedience training, upscale bakery treats, and party planning services as well as overnight kennel facilities. There are two large national chain pet supply stores in the area that provide grooming services and obedience classes. There are also several independent veterinarian facilities in the area that provide kennel facilities. No location in the immediate area provides all of the upscale services within one location. You are planning to open your facility in a 10,000 square foot stand-alone facility. You will need to purchase the entire inventory and will need to meet the individual needs of customers requesting grooming, doggie daycare, kennel, and other services.
The report should be arranged logically and in proper business style, demonstrate good written communication skills, describe project development and implementation, explain need for the loan, type of loan, and the process of obtaining the loan.
Teams will have five minutes to finalize their preparations. Teams have seven minutes to present the case, followed by a three minute question-answer period by the judges.

Computer Game Simulation Programming
Team up to 3 members
Computer Game Simulation consists of two parts: a prejudged program and a performance component. Both components are required to be eligible to win an award.
The topic for 2013 will be:
You are to create a FBLA-PBL trivia game. THere must be at least 25 questions from a minimum of five topics (five questions per topic) as part of the game. Your Audience is FBLA members.
Topics could include competitive event guidelines, national officers for 2012-2013, national partners, guidelines for running for national office, basic parliamentary procedure, national conference (NFLC and NLC) dates/locations, etc.
One suggested format is a random topic with a time limit on how long the person has to answer the question. The faster you answer the question the more points you earn for the question.
Questions/answers are to be stored in a tab delimited file with the question first, followed by the number of the correct answer, followed by the answer options.
Teams will have five minutes to set up and remove equipment or presentation items. Teams have seven minutes to present the program, followed by a three minute question-answer period by the judges.

Desktop Publishing
Team of 2 members
Desktop Publishing consists of two parts: an objective test and a production test. A one hour objective test will be given based on the following: basic desktop terminology and concepts, related desktop application knowledge, digital imaging and graphics, desktop layout rules and standards, safety, ethics, and legal issues, print process, and message presentation, accuracy, and proofreading. Two hours will be given for the school-site production portion. The school-site production should include documents that address the topic and are appropriate for the audience, required information that is effectively communicated, graphics, text treatment, and special effects that show creativity and cohesiveness of design, appropriate selection of fonts and type sizes, over all layout and design that is creative and appealing, and a final product that indicates a clear thought process and an intended, planned direction with formulation and execution of a firm idea.

Digital Design and Promotion

Digital Design and Promotion consists of two parts: a prejudged promotional piece and a performance component. Both components are required to be eligible to win an award.
The topic for 2013 will be:
You will develop a corporate identity for Xtreme Adventure Travel Company, an new venture offering tours of the Southwestern United States. The company is based in Anaheim, Califonia and provides tours to small groups via jeep, helicopter, hot air balloon, bicycle, kayak/ canoe, and other modes of transport to experience the area's natural beauty up close.
You, as a designer, have been charged with the task of developing a corporate logo with a tag line that can be used in a variety of multiple designs and media. You should design your primary logo with a tag line that can be used in a variety of multiple designs and media. You should design your primary logo and tag like as well as supporting logos that can be incorporated into the following items:
Business Documents: letterhead/ envelope, electronic gift certificate, and presentation template
Promotional Items: billboard (this must be a vector-based artwork), one-quarter page grayscale newspaper advertisement to appear in the Orange County Register, Promotional t-shirt for both screen printing and sublimation (this must be a vector-based artwork), and web banner

E-Business
Team up to 3 members
E-Business consists of two parts: a prejudged project and a performance component. Both components are required to be eligible to win an award.
The topic for 2013 will be:
Your FBLA chapter has been approached by the school's administration to create a streamlined system for graduation seating for families and graduates. The site may be real or fictional. Included in the site should be a navigation bar to allow participants to view the details about graduation. Families will need to reserve tickets and to arrange for ticket pick-up, participants will need to view open seats, and most importantly graduates will need to select their own seats. It also must offer a shopping cart system, order review, confirmation, and pickup options for the family tickets. You are not expected to have a live payment link.
Teams will have five minutes to set up and remove equipment and/or presentation items. Teams have seven minutes to explain the site, including: development of the topic, development and design process, use and implementation of innovative technology, use and development of media elements, and copyright issues with pictures, music, and other items, followed by a three minute question-answer period by the judges.

Management Information Systems consists of two parts: an objective test and a performance component. Network Design

Network Design consists of two parts: an objective test and a performance component. A one hour objective test will be given based on the following: network installation-- planning, configuration, problem solving and troubleshooting, network administrator functions, configuration of internet resources, backup and disaster recovery, and configuring network resources and services. An interactive case study will be given and each group must analyze the situation and recommend a network solution to address the issues raised during a seven minute performance. Twenty minutes are given to prepare before the performance. Each team member will be provided two 4" x 6" blank note cards. Information may be written on both sides of the note cards. This is a role-play event. Teams should interact with a panel of judges and present the solution to the case. The judges will play the role of the second party in the presentation.

Website Design

Website Design consists of two parts: a prejudged project and a performance component. The prejudged website must be developed according to the topic below.
The topic for 2013 will be:
Your FBLA has decided to create a community calendar where you will feature all community events in once centralized place. The website should provide information about the events, times, locations, and other relevant information. Contact information, maps, or directions also would be helpful elements in the website. Please provide your own FBLA chapter’s events. Incorporate one type of social media, which allow for others to find out about the calendar through Facebook, Twitter, etc.
All participants will compete in a preliminary, then final, performance to explain the development of their website. Five minutes will be allotted for set up. The individual or team will have seven minutes to present, followed by a three minute question-answer period.

Business Presentation

Business Presentation consists of a performance component.
The topic for 2013 will be:
You are presenting to a group of young professionals preparing to interview for internship positions and/ or full-time employment. Create a presentation explaining proper etiquette for a business luncheon.
The participant must use a presentation software program as an aid in delivering the business presentation. Five minutes will be allotted to set up. The individual or team will have seven minutes to deliver the presentation, followed by a three minute question-answer period.

A one hour objective test will be given based on the following: basic marketing fundamentals, economics, selling and merchandising, channels of distribution, marketing information research and planning, promotion and advertising media, legal, ethical, and social aspects of marketing, and e-commerce. Partnership with Business Project
Partnership with Business Project consists of two parts: a prejudged report and a performance component. Both components are required to be eligible to win an award. This project is designed to bring business leaders and FBLA members together in a positibe working relationship through innovative programs.
The report should describe the planning and implementation of activities that build a partnership between business leaders and chapter members for the purpose of learning about a business.
All participants will compete in a preliminary, then final, performance to explain the development of their website. Five minutes will be allotted for set up. The individual or team will have seven minutes to present, followed by a three minute question-answer period.

Lifesmarts
In this event, teams will register and compete online, separate to the section and state conferences. Each team member will separately take a 60 question quiz covering Lifesmarts topic areas, and together complete a personal finance assessment and a team consumer assessment. A cumulative score will be given based on the performance in the 3 events, and the top 12 teams from each competition (although only one team per state) can compete at the NLC; during the conference, they will go through two buzzer matches, a team activity, and an individual assessment per team member. The top 6 teams will advance to semifinals, and the top two teams will move on to the championships.
